- When you land
- Install the profile and scan the QR at home on Wi-Fi before boarding, and download Naver Map or KakaoMap while you are at it. Landing at Incheon, Gimpo, Gimhae or Jeju, switch off airplane mode and you should attach to SK Telecom or KT almost immediately; keep Data Roaming ON for the eSIM line and your home line's data off.
Common questions
- Does an eSIM work in South Korea?
- Yes, on any unlocked eSIM-capable phone. The profile registers on SK Telecom or KT and coverage is among the best anywhere — including underground on the metro and aboard KTX trains. Check your phone offers an option to add a mobile plan in its settings before buying.
- Does Google Maps work in Korea, or do I need Naver?
- Google Maps is heavily limited in Korea. Driving directions are essentially unavailable and transit routing is patchy, because mapping data cannot be exported. Download Naver Map or KakaoMap before you go — both have English interfaces and work properly. Both use noticeably more data than Google Maps, so size your plan accordingly.
- Can I use the hotspot?
- Yes, tethering is included and draws from the same allowance. On unlimited plans the hotspot shares the daily full-speed cap rather than having its own, so a laptop pulling large downloads will throttle your phone as well. Korean hotel Wi-Fi is generally fast, so save heavy transfers for the room.
