United States

A US travel eSIM roams onto T-Mobile or AT&T. T-Mobile gives faster mid-band 5G in metros; AT&T holds signal better on rural interstates and in national parks.

iPhone 14 and later models sold in the United States are eSIM-only and ship without a physical SIM tray. A US-bought iPhone therefore cannot fall back to a plastic SIM if an eSIM profile fails, so keep your carrier's app or account login reachable over Wi-Fi.

When you land
Install and scan the QR code before you board, on your home Wi-Fi — American airport Wi-Fi is usually behind an advertising portal and slower than it looks. After landing, switch Data Roaming ON for the eSIM and keep your home line's data OFF; you should attach to T-Mobile or AT&T within a minute or two of leaving airplane mode.

Common questions

Does an eSIM work in the United States?
Yes, and the US is one of the easiest countries for it. There is no registration requirement, and the profile roams onto T-Mobile or AT&T. Your phone must be eSIM-capable and carrier-unlocked. Note that iPhone 14 and later sold in the US have no SIM tray at all — eSIM is the only option on those handsets.
Will it activate on arrival at JFK, LAX or SFO?
Normally within a minute or two of leaving airplane mode, well before you clear immigration. Install the profile at home first: US airport Wi-Fi usually routes you through an advertising portal, and at JFK and LAX the free tier can be slow enough to make QR activation frustrating.
Can I use the hotspot for a laptop?
Tethering is supported on most US plans and is genuinely useful given how variable hotel Wi-Fi is. Hotspot data comes out of the same allowance, and video calls over a shared connection eat through it quickly. If you plan to work from the road, size the plan for the laptop, not the phone.
