When you land
Install the profile and scan the QR at home on Wi-Fi before boarding — activation is not possible once you depend on French mobile data. Landing at Charles de Gaulle, Orly or Nice Côte d'Azur you should register on Orange or SFR within a minute or two: turn Data Roaming ON for the eSIM line and leave your home line's data OFF so it cannot roam behind your back.

Common questions

Does an eSIM work in France?
Yes. Orange and SFR both fully support roaming eSIM profiles, and any eSIM-capable phone will connect within a minute or two of landing. The requirement people miss is turning on Data Roaming for the eSIM line — the profile roams by design, and without that setting it will show no service no matter how good the coverage is.
Can I use the hotspot or tethering in France?
Usually yes, and it is genuinely useful given how much of French travel involves a laptop on a train. Check the plan terms, as some unlimited tiers restrict tethering or meter it separately. Bear in mind that hotspot use consumes a daily full-speed allowance much faster, so the throttle can arrive earlier than you expect.
How much data do I need for a week in France?
Around 4 to 6 GB covers a week for most travellers: maps, messaging, transit apps and moderate browsing. Push higher if you stream to fill TGV journeys, work from cafés, or rely on live translation outside Paris. Note that offline-downloading maps and rail tickets before you travel measurably reduces what you burn day to day.
