Spain

A Spain eSIM roams onto Movistar or Orange and covers the mainland well. Install it at home, because activation needs Wi-Fi.

When you land
Install the profile and scan the QR at home on Wi-Fi before boarding — you cannot activate once you are relying on Spanish mobile data. Landing at Barajas, El Prat, Málaga or Palma you should register on Movistar or Orange within a minute: switch Data Roaming ON for the eSIM line and turn your home line's data OFF so it cannot roam in the background.

Common questions

Does an eSIM work in Spain?
Yes, without complications. Movistar and Orange both support roaming eSIM profiles nationwide, and any eSIM-capable handset will register shortly after landing. The step travellers skip is enabling Data Roaming on the eSIM line — the profile is a roaming one by design, and it will sit there showing no service until you switch that on.
Can I use the hotspot or tethering in Spain?
Generally yes, and it is worth having for a laptop on a work trip or for sharing with family. Read the plan terms, because a few unlimited tiers cap hotspot use separately or exclude it. Note that tethering drains your daily full-speed allowance far faster than phone use alone, so a throttle can arrive mid-afternoon.
How much data do I need for 10 days in Spain?
Plan on roughly 5 to 8 GB for ten days of normal travel. Spain leans on the phone more than some destinations: QR menus at every meal, rail apps, constant maps, and scooter or bike-share apps that stream location. Heavy photo and video uploading from the beach or a festival can double that, so size up if you post daily.
