Netherlands
A Netherlands travel eSIM roams onto KPN, Vodafone or Odido, and because the country is small, flat and densely built, coverage is among the most uniform in Europe. The Wadden islands and their ferry crossings are the real weak spots.

- When you land
- Install and scan the QR code at home on your own WiFi before you fly. On landing at Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS), turn Data Roaming ON for the eSIM and leave your home line's data OFF; you should be on KPN, Vodafone or Odido before you reach the train platform directly beneath the terminal.
Common questions
- Does an eSIM work in the Netherlands?
- Yes. Any eSIM-capable, carrier-unlocked phone can install a travel profile and roam onto KPN, Vodafone or Odido. There is no restriction on foreign eSIMs. Coverage is unusually consistent nationwide, so you rarely need to think about which of the three networks you end up on.
- Will it work on arrival at Schiphol?
- It should register within a minute or two of leaving airplane mode at AMS. Install the profile at home first so you are connected before you reach the train platform — Schiphol's station is directly under the terminal, and it is easier to check departures with data already running than to hunt for WiFi.
- Is there coverage on the Wadden islands?
- Mostly, but it is the weakest part of the country. Texel, Vlieland, Terschelling, Ameland and Schiermonnikoog have solid service in the villages and thinner coverage across the dunes and mudflats, and the ferry crossings themselves often drop mid-channel. Download offline maps before you board the ferry.
