A Germany travel eSIM roams onto Telekom, Vodafone or O2. Telekom has the deepest rural and Autobahn footprint; the other two are strong in cities but thinner in rural Bavaria, the Eifel and the east.

- When you land
- Install and scan the QR code at home on your own WiFi before you fly. On landing at Frankfurt (FRA), Munich (MUC) or Berlin Brandenburg (BER), turn Data Roaming ON for the eSIM, leave your home line's data OFF, and you should be connected to Telekom, Vodafone or O2 within a minute or two of leaving airplane mode.
Common questions
- Does an eSIM work in Germany?
- Yes. Any carrier-unlocked, eSIM-capable phone can install a travel profile and roam onto Telekom, Vodafone or O2. Germany places no restriction on foreign eSIMs. Check your handset is genuinely unlocked before you fly — some operators take a day or more to process an unlock request.
- Will it work on arrival at Frankfurt, Munich or Berlin Brandenburg?
- It should register within a minute or two of leaving airplane mode at FRA, MUC or BER. Install the profile at home first, though: airport WiFi in Germany usually works but often wants an email or a captive-portal step, and that is awkward when you have just landed with no data.
- Do I need to register my passport or ID?
- Not for a travel eSIM. The Telekommunikationsgesetz identity-registration requirement applies to SIMs issued by German providers, so buying prepaid locally means showing a passport in a shop or verifying by video. A roaming profile activated before you travel falls outside that rule entirely.
